Sicilian blood oranges: here are the properties and benefits

Sicilian
blood oranges should be consumed regularly, as they represent one of the
healthiest food choices for our body.

Infact, blood oranges are real natural cures for the body, managing to promote
the proper functioning of many organs. Thanks to their purifying and
remineralizing properties, for example, they help facilitate liver activity for
the disposal of fats. Magnesium, on the other hand, strengthens the nervous
system, while potassium manages to promote diuresis. Finally, vitamins A and C
are responsible for brighter skin and optimal health.

Sicilian
blood oranges are characterized by over 170 natural chemical elements and in
particular 60 flavonoids, which manage to counteract inflammation and the
formation of atherosclerotic plaques.

Furthermore,
it is thanks to their red color and, therefore, to their pigmentation, that red
oranges become a real health elixir: powerful
antioxidants, free radicals and anthocyanins are contained within each segment.

But
the real protagonist is vitamin C, present in blood oranges in a percentage 40%
higher than other citrus fruits. This vitamin is capable of strengthening the
immune system and preventing cell aging, as well as preventing the formation of
cardiovascular diseases and protecting the stomach from gastritis and ulcers.
In addition, it facilitates the absorption of iron and the deposition of
phosphorus and calcium in bones and teeth. It is no coincidence that the red
orange is one of the most recommended fruits during pregnancy and menopause and
for those who suffer from anemia or who are addicted to cigarette smoking (the
orange is able to decrease the damage related to the intake of nicotine).

Finally,
according to a study conducted by the University of Catania, in conjunction
with the IEO (European Institute of Oncology), and published by the World
Journal of Gastroenterology, the distribution of blood orange juice on animals
has allowed to lower the levels of fat in the liver, also reducing
triglycerides and blood cholesterol.
